What is therapy?

I often tell my clients that we are all born perfectly aware of our needs and have no problems communicating them to the world: we cry, we shout, we turn away, we reach towards. Then, putting it in very simple words, “something” happens – call it childhood, society, sometimes it’s trauma, and it all gets complicated – we lose touch with our core, we confuse our desires with the ones that were given/inserted in us by others. And then our behaviors and choices do not reflect our true needs and who we really are. And that causes emotional discomfort, to say the least (the word ”suffering” is closer to the truth, but not everyone is ready to admit it yet). Therapy is peeling the layers – checking, is it me? Do I want this? What do I want? With the help of a therapist who is there for you to reflect, to accept, to listen, you’re slowly learning how to read & understand yourself better. And only then can you act on that knowledge and those feelings. Or not – the choice is always yours 🙂
